Seagate Unveils 10TB Helium-Filled Enterprise Drive

Seagate is going big with its latest enterprise drive.

The Cupertino, Calif. storage company on Wednesday launched its first 10TB, helium-filled enterprise capacity hard disk bulldoze (HDD). It'due south aimed at private and public cloud-based data centers, uses the standard 3.5-inch CMR blueprint for easy system integration.

"Incorporating vii platters and 14 heads, the drive seals in helium to create a turbulence-gratuitous, quiet environs, decreasing both friction and resistance on the platters," Seagate said. The drive besides promises to evangelize "the manufacture'south lowest ability/TB ratio and weight specifications for a 10TB HDD."

It offers 25 percentage more density compared to past drives, and uses "advanced caching algorithms" to amend performance and aid deject data center managers more chop-chop deal with large volumes of data.
